Mass Exodus

Anthony Jerome Markson (thenoid on IRC) writes,

Howdy!

Thought I'd toss out a roguish deck based on Infernal Genesis. I got the idea of Genesis and Crossroads from a friend, and thought it'd be interesting to see a T2 deck of it for those days when I'm too bored to play real decks ;)

The deck is fairly straightforward; Infernal Genesis and Haunted Crossroads, add big creatures to taste. Delraich is a smashing in this thing. Anyways, wanted to see what you guys could do with it. Enjoy! =]

//NAME: mass exodus
// land
        4 Peat Bog
        21 Swamp
// men
        4 Hidden Horror
        1 Ascendant Evincar
        3 Delraich
        1 Crosis, the Purger
        2 Avatar of Woe
// control
        2 Corrupt
        4 Duress
// "combo"
        2 Twilight's Call
        4 Haunted Crossroads
        3 Infernal Genesis
// search/accel
        4 Dark Ritual
        2 Diabolic Intent
        3 Charcoal Diamond
SB:  3 Tsabo's Decree
SB:  4 Chilling Apparition
SB:  4 Cremate
SB:  4 Slay

I found when I started to edit the deck that it needs little work on it. The mana base is pretty good, the cards chosen fit the deck nicely. However, Hidden Horror is not Type 2 legal (what a loss). Also, other cards, like the Evincar, don't go too well. Sure, the ability of his is nice, but it's not that good of a creature for a 6 cc.

Card-by-Card Analysis

Land - I decreased the land count by 1 and added Dust Bowls for disruption. The deck is pretty slow to start, so you need to keep your opponent slow with you.
Wall of Bone - Blocks bears and fatties since it regenerates. Good stuff, an underrated card it is.
Volrath the Fallen - He replaced Ascendant Evincar since he can place creatures in the graveyard like Hidden Horror did. With the discarding, he can be pumped up and set for the kill. It does lack evasion however.
Delraich - Ah yes, big fattie capable of mass destruction. Goes well with the Genesis tokens.
Crosis, the Purger - If I said it once, I'll say it again. Everyone LOVES Dragon Legends.
Avatar of Woe - More like Avatar of Whoa.
Corrupt - When you're low on life, you'll be glad you're playing mono black when you peel this card off the top of your library.
Duress - Gooooooood discard card.
Twilight's Call - Half-assed Living Death. Good when all those big fatties are in the graveyard and are waiting for a revival.
Haunted Crossroads/Infernal Genesis - THE combo in the deck.
Phyrexian Arena - Great card advantage card, though it chips away at your life. Only 2 are used because too many can be fatal.
Dark Ritual - Love that acceleration.
Diabolic Intent - Go cousin of Demonic Tutor! Another cheap way of getting a creature in the graveyard and getting something good out of it.
Charcoal Diamond - More accel.
And sideboard:
Tsabo's Decree - Bye rebels.
Addle - Control could rock you, and so can Plague Spitter. Be sure to pack these when R/B or U/W control hits the table.
Nausea - Good vs weenies. ("But doesn't that kill your creatures too?" - random in the audience) Well, it's only used for the early game vs Fires and Mono Red and whatnot. It'll take you a while to get your combo going anyways.
Vendetta - Also good vs quick beats decks.
Slay - It's not Perish, but it will do.

I really liked this deck, for the thought put into it. thenoid and I go over a lot of his decks, and he's a pretty interesting deck builder. I cry sometimes looking at his horrendous creations. This is one of those not-so-ugly decks of his :P

Keep topdecking!
