Overview

The Sixth Edition was released in order to rotate the contents of the basic set. The cards still have white borders, have a roman numeral six expansion symbol and "copyright 1993-1999" is on the base of the cards. The expansion symbol is black for common cards () silver for uncommon cards () and gold for rare cards (). Cards were first available on April 27th, 1999.

Cards from Ice Age, Homelands, Alliances, Mirage, Visions, Weatherlight, Tempest, Stronghold, and Exodus were rotated in. Basic lands appear in starter decks and not in booster packs.

Sixth Edition includes new rules for the game. These are a major change from the previous rules. Seventh Edition uses the same rules.

Note that the "tournament" decks (many people still call them "starter" decks) do not come with a rulebook. They come with a rules sheet explaining the major new rules in Sixth Edition.
